Training and Technical Assistance
To help applicants gain the knowledge they need to compete for grants, OJJDP offers training and technical assistance. The Technical Assistance Request Form should be used to request training and technical assistance. Please note that all requests must be submitted to OJJDP at least 60 days prior to the proposed date. The focus is on on sound and comprehensive prevention strategies.
Since membership in a community coalition is a prerequisite for Community Prevention Grants Program funding, training is targeted toward local prevention policy boards, which typically include community leaders, program developers, researchers, and others involved in mobilizing the community to serve children.
The following types of training are available:
- Community Team Orientation Training
- Community Data Collection and Analysis Training
- Plan and Program Development Training
- Evaluation and Performance Measurement Training
- State and Local Capacity-Building Training and Follow-up Technical Assistance
The OJJDP Model Programs Guide and Database provides communities, practitioners, and researchers with an easy-to-use tool to help them identify and implement scientifically tested and proven delinquency prevention programs. The Guide and Database describes some 150 programs that have demonstrated a statistically significant decline in delinquency or risk factors related to delinquency and offer research reviews in 17 program categories, including afterschool, gang prevention, mentoring, parenting, peer mediation, school curriculums, and truancy prevention.
