Attorney General Holder Announces Tribal Nations Leadership Council

November 3, 2009

Attorney General Eric Holder

Addressing the Department of Justice's (DOJ's) Tribal Nations Listening Session, which took place October 28-29, 2009, in St. Paul, MN, Attorney General Eric Holder affirmed that the Department's commitment to “open, frank communication among our governments” will not end with this meeting.

To that end, the Attorney General announced the creation of a Tribal Nations Leadership Council, which will meet twice a year, to help coordinate efforts between DOJ and tribal governments and indicated his intent to visit tribal communities.

Deputy Attorney General David Ogden and Associate Attorney General Tom Perrelli also addressed the Listening Session.
