  • The Census of Juveniles in Residential Placement (CJRP) provides a one-day count of all juvenile offenders in public or private residential facilities in the United States. CJRP is generally administered on the last Wednesday of October in odd numbered years. However, a set of unforseen circumstances prevented the 2005 mailout from taking place in October of that year. The census date for that wave of data collection was in February 2006.
  • The vast majority of residents in juvenile residential placement facilities on February 22, 2006 were juvenile offenders (88%).
  • The 1-day count of juvenile offenders in custody fell 14% between 1999 and 2006.
  • Juvenile offenders held for delinquency offenses accounted for 84% of all residents and 95% of all juvenile offenders in 2006.
