  • Minorities were 39% of the juvenile population in 2006 and 61% of juveniles in residential placement on February 22, 2006.
  • In 20 states, the minority proportion of females in residential placement exceeded the national average of 57%.
  • Although the minority proportion of females varied across States, the minority proportion of females tended to be greater for detained females and females committed to public facilities than for females committed to private facilities.
