Notes: Facilities identified here as not having a mix of violent offenders and other offenders, may in fact, allow both types of offenders, but merely had no mix on the census day. The specific housing arrangements of facilities identified here as having an offense mix are not known. Violent and nonviolent populations may be separated within a facility.

To protect the confidentiality of juvenile residents all published data from the Census of Juveniles in Residential Placement (CJRP) are rounded to the nearest multiple of three. Each cell is rounded independently, without consideration as to row or column totals. As a result, in many tables, the internal cells do not add to the marginal totals. Nearly 6 in 10 facilities held a mix of juveniles in residential placement for violent offenses (murder, violent sex offenses, robbery, and aggravated assault) and juveniles in residential placement for other (nonviolent) offenses.
A larger proportion of public facilities held a mix of violent and other offenders (79%) than was the case among private facilities (43%).
