The juvenile arrest rate for all crimes increased for both females and males between 1983 and 1997 - the increase was greater for females than for males during this period.

- Trends in the overall arrest rate followed similar patterns for female and male juveniles. For both groups, the rates increased between 1983 and 1997, and then declined through 2007. Since 1983, the female rate increased more (72% vs. 30%) and then declined less (22% vs. 33%) than the male rate.
- Despite a moderate increase (4%) since 2005, the male rate in 2007 was 22% below its 1980 level. The female rate in 2007, however, was 28% above the 1980 rate.
