Juvenile Arrest Rates for Drug Abuse Violations by Sex, 1980-2007

- After a period of substantial growth through the 1990s, the male juvenile arrest rate for drug abuse violations generally declined after 1997 while the female rate remained relatively stable.
- By 2007, the drug abuse arrest rate for males declined 23% from its 1997 peak, while the rate for females was just 6% below its 1997 level. For both groups, the arrest rates in 2007 were considerably above the rates in 1980 (55% for males and 46% for females).
- In 2007, the male drug arrest rate was five times the female rate.
