From the mid-1980s into the late-1990s, juvenile arrest rates for disorderly conduct rose sharply for males and females.

- Between 1984 and 1997, the male arrest rate for disorderly conduct increased 86% and the female rate increased 198%.
- Following a decline between 1997 and 2000, the rates increased for both groups between 2000 and 2007 (11% for males and 40% for females).
- By 2007, the female arrest rate was more than twice the rate in 1980 while the male rate was 10% above the rate in 1980.
