While burglary arrest rates for juveniles declined, motor vehicle theft arrest rates increased for all racial groups after 1983.

- From 1983 to their peak years, arrest rates for motor vehicle theft doubled for white and Asian juveniles (peak year 1990 for both groups), the rate for American Indian juveniles increased nearly 150% (peak year 1995), and more than tripled for black juveniles (peak year 1989).
- In 2007, arrest rates for motor vehicle theft had fallen from their peak for each racial group: Asians (87%), blacks (76%), whites (75%), and American Indians (down 70%).
