- Between 1980 and 2007, the juvenile arrest rate for simple assault increased substantially for most racial groups. These increases were greater than the corresponding increases in aggravated assault rates.
- For American Indian juveniles, the arrest rate for simple assault increased 109% between 1980 and 2007, while the rate for aggravated assault increased by 5%. For white juveniles, the increases were 126% (simple assault) and 15% (aggravated assault), for black juveniles, the increases were 154% (simple assault) and 22% (aggravated assault), and for Asian juveniles, simple assault arrests decreased 37% while aggravated assault arrests decreased by 25% over the 28-year period.
- In 2007, the simple assault arrest rate for black juveniles was more than three times the rate for whites and American Indians and twelve times the rate for Asians.
