Juvenile Arrest Rates for Running Away by Race, 1980-2007

| Note: Rates are arrests of persons ages 10-17 per 100,000 persons ages 10-17 in the resident population. Persons of Hispanic ethnicity may be of any race, i.e., white, black, American Indian, or Asian. Arrests of Hispanics are not reported separately. |

- More so than for other offenses, the race-specific arrest rates for running away from home are very similar. In 2007, for example, the rates for the four racial groups ranged from 295 to 544 per 100,000 persons ages 10-17.
- By 2007, the juvenile arrest rates for running away were lower than levels observed in 1980 for Asians (68%), whites (down 42%) and American Indians (29%). For black juveniles the rates were slightly above their 1980 level (by 9%) .
