The decline in juvenile court delinquency
caseloads since the mid-1990s is the most
substantial decline since 1960

OJJDP has recently released the following fact sheets providing data derived from the report Juvenile Court Statistics 2005.
  • Delinquency Cases in Juvenile Court, 2005 provides statistics on delinquency cases handled in U.S. juvenile courts between 1985 and 2005. This fact sheet indicates that Juvenile courts handled 46 percent more cases in 2005 than in 1985.
  • Delinquency Cases Waived to Criminal Court, 2005 offers statistics on petitioned delinquency cases waived to criminal court between 1985 and 2005. According to this fact sheet, since 1994, the number of cases judicially waived declined 47 percent (6,900 cases in 2005).
  • Juvenile Delinquency Probation Caseload, 2005 offers statistics on delinquency cases resulting in probation in 2005. The fact sheet shows that property offense cases made up the greatest proportion of the probation caseload.
